As a Virginia Beach engagement photographer East Beach, there are few things I love more than photographing a couple who can simply relax, have fun together, and genuinely enjoy the experience—and this East Beach engagement session was exactly that! From the moment we started, these two were absolute naturals in front of the camera. They made my job incredibly easy, and their connection came through so beautifully in every photograph.

East Beach is one of those locations that never disappoints. With its beautiful coastal setting, soft light, sandy shoreline, and relaxed atmosphere, it is such a gorgeous location for Virginia Beach engagement photos. Even after photographing engagement sessions here before, every couple brings something completely different to the experience—and these two certainly did!

An East Beach Engagement Session Full of Joy

One of my favorite things about engagement sessions is getting the opportunity to know our couples before their wedding day. There is something so special about having that time together without the timeline and activity of a wedding day surrounding us.

These two were SO much fun to photograph. They were easygoing, comfortable together, and truly such naturals. Nothing felt forced or overly posed. We were able to walk around East Beach, laugh together, explore the area, and capture so many genuine moments between them.

Those are always some of my favorite photographs—the ones where our couples look like themselves.

As a Virginia wedding photographer, my goal isn’t simply to create beautiful images. I want our couples to look back at their photographs and remember what this season of their lives actually felt like. Engagement photos should capture the excitement, anticipation, friendship, and love that exist before two people step into marriage together.

A Firefighter Groom-to-Be!

Another detail that made this session especially fun was learning more about Chris and his career as a firefighter. How awesome is that?!

There is something incredibly meaningful about getting to photograph the people behind the stories—the careers they have chosen, the lives they have built, and the relationship that has brought them to this point.

Getting to know Chris and his fiancée made us even more excited for their wedding day. They were both incredibly kind, relaxed, and wonderful to work with, and if their engagement session is any indication, their wedding is going to be an amazing day!

From East Beach to Vista Creek in Manteo, NC

Chris and his fiancée will be celebrating their wedding at Vista Creek in Manteo, North Carolina, one of our favorite venues! Vista Creek is such a beautiful setting for a wedding, and we cannot wait to be back there documenting another incredible day.

There is something extra special about photographing both the engagement session and wedding for our couples. By the time the wedding arrives, we’ve already spent time together, they’ve experienced being in front of our cameras, and everything feels that much more familiar.

When helping our couples choose an engagement photo location, we always encourage them to think about the overall feeling they want their photographs to have—not simply what location is popular.

Is East Beach a good location for engagement photos?

Absolutely! East Beach offers a beautiful coastal backdrop and a relaxed atmosphere that works wonderfully for engagement photography. It is especially beautiful when paired with soft evening light.

It’s a great choice for couples who want their Virginia Beach engagement photos to feel romantic, natural, and coastal without distracting from the two of them.

What should we wear for our engagement session?

Choose clothing that feels like you while still coordinating well together. You don’t have to perfectly match—in fact, we generally prefer that you don’t! Instead, think about complementary colors, textures, and outfits that photograph beautifully together.

Most importantly, wear something you feel confident and comfortable in. If you’re constantly adjusting an outfit or don’t feel like yourself, it can make it harder to relax during your session.

What if we’re awkward in front of the camera?

This is probably one of the most common concerns we hear, and you absolutely do not need to know how to pose before your engagement session!

Part of our job is helping you feel comfortable, giving you direction when you need it, and creating opportunities for natural interaction between the two of you. You don’t have to show up knowing what to do.
