Tom and Liz’s Denali Jean Ranch Virginia Wedding was a breathtaking celebration that perfectly blended Southern charm and elegance. As a Virginia wedding photographer and Hampton Roads wedding photographer, I was thrilled to capture their special day at this gorgeous venue located in Southern Virginia Beach.

The Venue: Denali Jean Ranch

Nestled on a 62-acre estate, the Denali Jean Ranch is the essence of Southern charm and elegance. It’s an all-occasion facility ideal for weddings, reunions, corporate events, or any life celebration. With ample space and privacy, it offers the perfect backdrop for a memorable event. The venue’s stunning barns provide a blend of rustic and refined elements, while the lush patio and scenic lake offer picturesque photo opportunities.

The Wedding Day

The day started with rain, which, according to tradition, is considered good luck on a wedding day. Fortunately, the clouds parted, allowing the sun to shine and create beautiful conditions for outdoor photos.

One of my favorite aspects of Tom and Liz’s wedding was their inclusion of prayer throughout the day. Their brother-in-law even created a moment during the reception for guests to receive Christ into their hearts. The heartfelt speeches, particularly Tom’s brother’s touching words, added a personal and emotional touch to the celebration.

About the Couple

Tom and Liz are a truly remarkable couple. They first met through their churches, which, despite being in different states, have a long-standing affiliation. Their families had known each other for years, and Liz’s family spent time at Tom’s house during the holidays. Their bond deepened over time, from spending hours talking at Bible conferences to staying connected through Tom’s medical school years. By the summer of 2022, they realized how perfect they were for each other, leading to Tom’s heartfelt proposal.

Tom, an emergency medicine physician, and Liz, an ICU nurse, share a love for simple pleasures like eating sushi, visiting IKEA, and enjoying coffee at Café Stella in Norfolk. They also cherish their time at the beach and engaging in prayer together.

The Proposal

Tom’s proposal was both creative and sentimental. On September 16, 2023, he arranged a surprise proposal at the Cavalier, complete with a hidden camera setup by Liz’s sister and her husband. As they enjoyed cocktails on the lawn, Tom got down on one knee despite recovering from ankle surgery. The moment was filled with emotion, culminating in a celebration that included a dinner at Todd’s Bistro with their families.

Wedding Colors: Shades of blue (French, ice, dusty) with gold accents.

Theme: The wedding featured a mix of elegance and coastal touches, reflecting Liz’s love for the water and her move to New Jersey.
