Virginia Beach Family Photographer Brock Environmental Family Session

Tolliver Family Session at Brock Environmental Center | Virginia Beach Family Photographer
As a Virginia Beach Family Photographer, there are some families that stay in your heart long after a session ends. The Tolliver family is one of those families for me.
Years ago, I had the joy of photographing them here in Virginia Beach before their family was relocated for military service. Like many military families, their journey took them across the ocean—this time to Guam—where they faithfully served and built memories together during that season of life.
So when they reached out to let me know they were back in Virginia Beach, I was beyond excited to reconnect and photograph their family again.
Watching Families Grow
One of the most special parts of being a photographer is getting to witness families over time. When I last photographed the Tolliver family, their kids were much younger. Seeing them again after several years was such a gift.
The kids are now older, taller, and full of personality—but still absolute supermodels in front of the camera.
There is something incredibly meaningful about documenting families not just once, but through the seasons of their lives. Time moves quickly, and photographs allow us to pause and remember what each chapter looked like.
Brock Environmental Center | A Hidden Gem in Virginia Beach
For this session, we chose the beautiful Brock Environmental Center in Virginia Beach.
This location is one of my favorite hidden treasures for family photography. Nestled along the Chesapeake Bay, the Brock Environmental Center offers peaceful coastal views, tall grasses, wooden boardwalks, and stunning natural light.
It’s the perfect setting for relaxed family portraits because it allows families to move, explore, and simply enjoy being together.
The soft coastal breeze and golden evening light created the most beautiful atmosphere for the Tolliver family’s session.
A Family That Serves
Military families carry a unique story of sacrifice, commitment, and resilience. The Tolliver family embodies that spirit so beautifully.
Their time serving overseas in Guam was an important chapter for their family, and it was an honor to capture them now that they have returned to the place where so many memories first began.
Sessions like this are a reminder of why family photographs matter so much. They become markers of time—reminders of the journeys we’ve taken and the people who walked beside us.
Capturing Real Connection
My approach to family photography is always centered around connection and authenticity. Rather than focusing on stiff poses, I guide families into natural movement and interaction.
During this session, the Tollivers laughed, walked along the boardwalk, and simply enjoyed being together. Those unscripted moments often become the most meaningful photographs.
And truly—this family made my job easy. Their love for one another shines so naturally.
Virginia Beach Family Photography
Virginia Beach offers so many beautiful locations for family photography, but what makes a session truly special is the people in front of the camera.
It was such a joy reconnecting with the Tolliver family after all these years and documenting this new season for them.
Families change, children grow, and life takes us on unexpected journeys—but photographs allow us to hold onto these moments for generations.
